I Plead the 14th
Matthew Walsh proposed solutions to stop foreign entities from taking over the country. One of the solutions is to only grant voting rights to people who speak English.
It’s surprising he doesn’t know that would be a violation of the 14th Amendment. It would be a violation to abridge the rights of a citizen of the United States. A citizen, as defined by the Bill of Rights, is anyone born or naturalized, and subject to jurisdiction thereof.
Requiring only citizens who speak English can vote would be a violation of their 14th Amendment rights.
It’s possible Matthew Walsh believes the Amendments to the Constitutions are not valid. It’s not clear how he feels about the 14th Amendment or the 13th Amendment or the 19th Amendment. But based on his monologues including the one discussed here he possibly doesn’t recognize the validity of two of them.
During a monologue about Olivia Rodrigo’s “Driver’s License” he said women shouldn’t be able to vote because they have emotions. It’s possible he was being facetious. However, he’s never told anything that resembles a joke, so I’ll take his comments at face value.
Growing up I would tell my mother that I didn’t like broccoli. My mother would let me know that I didn’t have to like it, I just had to eat it. Matthew Walsh doesn’t have to like that non-English speaking citizens can vote, he just has to eat it.
